The Watergate Scandle
On June 17th, 1972 several burgulars were arrested inside of the office of the democratic national commitiy located in the watergate building in washington d.C.
prowlers were connected to president richard nixon realection campainged and they
have been caught attempting to wirewrape phones , spyed on the( DNC ) and steal secret documents.
Nixon took oporation before it happend he took steps trying to cover it up after raising "hush money" for burgulars. trying to stop the federal bureau of investigation (FBI) from investigating the crime , destroying evidence ,and firing uncopportive staff members.
June 19th, 1972 the (GOP) are among the watergate burglars the washington post reports formal attorneys general John Mitchell head of the nixon realection campaign denies any link to the operation.
august 1st 1972 after his role in the watergate conspieriancy had finnaly come to light the president resigned
his succesor general ford imidietly parond nixon for all the crimes he committed or may have committed in the office.
although nixon was never prosecueted the watergate scandle change american politics forever leading many americans to questions their leadership and think more critically about the presidency.
september 29th 1972 john mitchell while serving attorney general controll a srecet rebublican fund used to finanse wipespread intelligence-gathering source against the democratsthe post reports.
october 10th 1972 FBI agents establish that the waterbreak in the stems from a massive campiagn of political spying and sabotage conducted on behalf of the Nixion relection effort, the post card.
november 11th 1972 nixion is reelected in one of the largest landslides in american political history takeing more then the 60% of the votes and cruching the democratic nominee sen. geroge mcgovern of south dekota.
january 30 1973 Former nixion aides G. gorden liddy and james w, MCcord jr. are convited of conspierency burgulary and wirtapping in the watergate incident. five other men pleed guilty but mysteries remain.
April 30th 1973 Nixon’s top White House staffers, H.R. Haldeman and
John Ehrlichman, and Attorney General Richard Kleindienst resign over the
scandal. White House counsel John Dean is fired.
May 18, 1973 The Senate Watergate committee begins its nationally
televised hearings. Attorney General-designate Elliot Richardson taps former
solicitor general Archibald Cox as the Justice Department’s special prosecutor
for Watergate.
